My work is guided by walking as an artistic practice. I walk the streets to transform places and their meanings, because I believe that to lose oneself is to confront other realities, acquiring other states of consciousness. This transforms landscapes. And I allow space to dominate me, so that I can then create new reference points.
As I explore the city and its shores, in the great labyrinth of its suburbs, I encounter characters who live their own norms and lives, which constantly change around every corner. In this process, the subconscious is the protagonist. I seek my contradictory state: real and unreal, chaotic and orderly, inner and outer world, madness and healing. From this investigation and reflection during the journey through the unknown, a network of nerves, veins, branches, roots, wings, textures, coats, eyes, mouths, expressions and sounds that make up my drawings emerges.
Guilherme Kramer.
Born in São Paulo, Guilherme Kramer has been using drawing as his main form of expression since childhood. In the last 10 years, his work has evolved covering different surfaces, expanding the repertoire started in ink on paper to oil on canvas and large murals. Vivid faces and detailed landscapes emerge from his work, seen on the streets as well as in the depths of his imagination. For a long time, black and white aesthetics predominated in most of his paintings, which more recently has been sharing space with colors. His fascination with crowds results in studies of the masses in different contexts, a translation of days spent in public transport, popular festivals, demonstrations, and other large gatherings. In what he calls “spontaneous art”, he downloads all the information he captures during his daily urban journeys. He has a degree in Social Communication and studied Arts Applied to the Wall at the Massana School in Barcelona, dedicating himself to painting, drawing, ceramics, mosaic, stained glass and performance techniques. At the Lasar Segall Museum in São Paulo, he perfected lithography, woodcut, and metal techniques. He has held solo and group exhibitions in different cities in Brazil and around the world, such as Barcelona, Lisbon, Rome, Bogotá, Berna, Azores, Paris, Shanghai and Hong Kong.
